Moving on to #day4 of the #5daydraw. The brief was to draw an imaginary friend. I experimented with the live draw function in AI to colour a photo of my son. With the art brush tool, I added a multicolour hydra as the fictional friend. Quirky but a good lesson in computer illustration. Shading ain’t easy 🤓

I’m busy adding the final touches to “Senpuki No Dansu” (a visual poem) in time for Sunday’s big show!!

The ditty is a little abstract (someone likened it to an early morning piss 🤣) and an ode to my favourite kopi house in Singapore. I usually drink coffee with my other half who is Japanese hence the (still strange) title.

Judge for yourself - does it sound like coffee or taste like wee - and join the Bottoms Up Poetry Jam Singapore Edition on 7 August. There will be many other talented poets joining too, including my idol and mentor @mooneysinghchris!

Did you know that the “runcible spoon” is a nonsense word Lear made up? It’s the poets job to experiment with language - the more ridiculous the better!

I’ve decided to learn illustration so I can create a book of my children’s poems (one day…!)

This is DAY ONE of the 5 day drawing challenge. The task was to draw “whatever comes to mind” and my sketch is inspired by a new poem I’m writing called Senpuki No Dansu (Japanese for Dance of the Fan).

My drawing skills are rusty to say the least. But, you’ve got to start somewhere. Practice makes perfect!

As they say… an oldie but a goodie💋

I began drafting this poem at a Singapore writing workshop in 2018 and (finally) finished it in 2020. Written in iambic pentameter, this nostalgic ditty is based on my childhood memories.

I’ll be performing a rendition of “Watching Mamma Apply Lipstick” to music at the upcoming Poetry Festival Singapore.
